Jeff has been in the private practice of law in Memphis and Jackson, Tennessee for more than 43 years. For most of that time, he has limited his practice to representing individuals who have been seriously injured on the job or due to someone else’s negligence.
For the last 23 years, he has been certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Certified Civil Trial Specialist and Certified Pre-Trial Specialist. Jeff has always been interested and involved in the fair administration of courts and served on the Tennessee Supreme Court Advisory Commission for the Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence for 17 years.
He has been a member of the American Association for Justice since 1980. He has been a member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers (Tennessee Association for Justice) since 1981, serving on the Board of Governors since 1983 and holding various leadership positions, including Vice President, President-Elect, and President of the Association in 1992-1993.
Jeff is admitted in all Tennessee State Courts as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Tennessee, Middle District of Tennessee, Southern District of Illinois, and The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals
He has been a member of the Christian Legal Society since 1986. He attended ACNA/AAC Christian Mediation Training in 2017 and 2019. Jeff is active the Anglican Church in North America.
Jeff has been married to Jane Jarvis Garrety, also an attorney, for 41 years. They have two adult, married daughters, and four grandsons. Jeff earned his BBA, MBA, and JD from The University of Memphis.
